A mantel clock, ’Retour d’Egypte’ Austria circa 1800.

In ormolu and patinated bronze

The architectural patinated bronze clock case centered by an enamel dial with roman numerals and clockmakers name, GB: Jackle in Gratz. Surmounted by impressive ormolu sphinx and stars, the top decorated with an ormolu tripod, an urn and a harp. 

The fascination for Egypt became very popular in Europe after Napoleon’s Egyptian Campaign between 1798 and 1801.
