A pair of Gustavian corner tables, Stockholm circa 1790

In rosewood and rosewood veneer. Each table is fitted with a discreet drawer set within the frieze from were three tapering fluted legs are joined by a lower shelf, and terminate in gilt-brass feet.

Provenance:
Each table bears a wax seal inscribed “Kongl: Öfverståthållar Ämb: Canceli 1791”, indicating that they once belonged to the Chancery of the Royal Governor’s Office in Stockholm — the authority responsible, at the time, for the city’s administration and public order. The tables were likely either under sequestration or held in anticipation of an estate division.
