A wall panel attributed to the workshop of Daniel Marot, early 18th century

Oil on canvas.

The wall panel is based on an engraving by Jean Berain but with the difference that in the upper part under the canopy, the painting bears the monogram of  William and Mary. This together with the centrally placed thistle under a crown indicates that the painting was executed for the joint regents of England by Marots workshop during his time as a court painter. Large paintings like this from his workshop are very rare.
