Started his apprenticeship as a sculptor with his older brother in Hamburg in 1666. In 1672 he was called to Sweden by the Flemish sculptor Nicolaes Millich who at the time worked with the interior of Drottningholmsslott. There he worked mostly with sculpture and made, among other things, geridons, mirrors, picture frames, tables and more. In 1681 he was appointed court sculptor. He traveled to France and Italy in 1687 together with Nicodemus Tessin d.y. for studies prior to planning the interior of the new Stockholm Castle. Precht and Tessin later came to introduce the Golden Baroque together in Sweden.
