Christian Meyer was born around 1750 and is considered to be the foremost cabinetmaker of the late 18th century Russia. His skills made him become the chef supplier to the Russian Imperial Court. The Meyer family was of German origin and is believed to have immigrated to Russia some generations before.
Through the research of Dr Burkhardt Göres, Dr Tatyana Semenova and Iraida Bott its been revealed that many of the furniture previously attributed to David Roentgen in fact was the work of Christian Meyer, they have now been reattributed to him. The Meyer workshop was well established in St: Petersburg when Roentgen made his first visit there in 1783.
