Ephraim Ståhl was born in the town of Raumo in Finland as son to Henric Ståhl a tavern owner. At sixteen years old he came to Stockholm and started as chair maker apprentice with master J Malmsten and later with L Söderholm. Ephraim Ståhl came to be his eras most popular chair maker with his bold designs and feeling for the change of fashion in the continent. Ephraim Ståhls skill in precision carving and his design made him very popular and he hade many prestiges customer including the King, Gustav III. His work can be seen at the Stockholm Royal castle, Gripsholm castle and many more.
