Jean-Démosthène Dugourc Is one of the most famous French designer of ornamental design in the second half of the 18th century. Born in 1749 in Versailles where his father worked for the Duke of Orleans. In his twenties he traveled and visited Italy were he was influence and produced many drawings of the ancient Rome. He traveled to Spain to work for the Spanish court were he stayed for fourteen years. He was made first architect in charge of decoration projects to King Charles IV. Jean-Démosthène Dugourc was a very talented man, designing furniture, fabrics and illustrating books. After the French revolution he established businesses for manufacture of wallpaper and playing cards.
