Manufacture de Cristaux de la Reine was founded in 1787 during the reign of Louis XVI and operated under the patronage of Queen Marie Antoinette. The production was interrupted in 1792 due to the turmoil of the French Revolution.
In 1806, operations resumed under the leadership of Father Chapet, in collaboration with Ladouèpe-Dufougerias, who became known as “the Emperor’s chandelier maker” due to his remarkable skill. Under their leadership, the factory experienced rapid growth and earned the prestigious title of “The Royal and Imperial Manufactory.” However, around 1812, Chapet and Ladouèpe-Dufougerias, for unknown reasons, chose to step down from their positions, leading to a near cessation of production.
